Coverage of the explosion that destroyed the USS Maine and killed 238 US Naval personnel in Havana, Cuba.

Interesting Fact: A 10-inch shell and a porthole from the USS Maine were incorporated into a memorial that honors those officers and seamen who died in the explosion. The memorial is located out front of the Everhart Museum in Nay Aug Park.

Interesting Fact: One of the factors that led the United States to enter the war was the explosion at Black Tom Island, a pier opposite the Statue Of Liberty in New Jersey, that was used as a warehouse for military supplies being sent to Europe. The explosion was an act of sabotage by German agents.
